Our family has been renting the Blackberry Cottage since 1985. Here some memories of our guests.

belle ville italienne

[Read more...]

Cinque Terre by boat and rail

Dear Alberto, We had a wonderful sunny week at Blackberry Cottage in April! The garden is lovely and full of flowers in spring - it was very nice to enjoy breakfast outside in the sun with the spectacular view. The kitchen is well equipped and we made use of the BBQ on the terrace. We were 7 adults but the house didn't feel small as we spent most of the time outdoors. It is very easy to get to Cinque Terre by boat and rail, though a car is needed [Read more...]

seinen gepflegten Terrassen

[Read more...]

Uncommon place

How shall we praise this uncommon place
The ancient tower. the fortress wall below
Rising from wild salvia and the strands
Of Old Man's Beard and from the tearing claws
Of blackberry. But from above a cottage
Decked with terraces, roses, oleander and the blue
Of quaintly named ceratostigma
And the view, seated [Read more...]

We highly recommend coming by car.

The Blackberry Cottage is at the end of 700 meters private road which climbs the hill facing the La Spezia Gulf. There is public transport but it is not very frequent (1 bus each hour on average) and the stop is some 500 meters away. You have to climb quite a lot of stairs to get to the Blackberry Cottage. Parking is easy: you can park up to 4 cars just next to the entrance of the Blackberry Cottage.

Once you have competed the reservation we will send you the directions to reach the Blackberry Cottage.

The maximum number of guests is 8.

There is 1 bedroom on the main floor with a queen size bed, 1 bedroom downstairs with 2 single beds one next to the other and 2 rooms upstairs with 1 bunk bed each (so 2 persons in each room). There is 1 bathroom with toilet, bathtub and shower and another toilet upstairs. There is a second shower in the garden which can be used during the nice season. The Blackberry Cottage is perfect for 2 couples with maximum 4 kids. We do not recommend it for 8 adults unless they are very good friends.

Andrea is our housekeeper. He is a professional gardener and takes care of the garden and of the Blackberry Cottage as we don’t live in the area. Together with our cleaner Elisabetta he will be preparing the Blackberry Cottage for your holiday in the morning of the Saturday when you arrive. Normally everything is ready by 14:00 as the previous guests are supposed to leave by 9:30. Therefore, the best arrival time is on Saturday afternoon between 14:00 and 15:00 but you can arrive anytime between 10:00 and 14:00 to get the keys and make a tour in the area or go shopping while Andrea and Elisabetta are completing the work.
You can also arrive later but we need to know it in advance to arrange a meeting with Andrea, because Saturday afternoon is his resting moment of the week.

Yes, Andrea will ask you 200 euro in cash as deposit for the valuable things you will find in the cottage. So please make sure you have 200 euro cash when you arrive. If you brake a glass or lose some cutlery there is no problem and no money will be detracted, just please inform Andrea at the end of your stay so that he can replace them.

The deposit will also be used to pay the heating in the low season if you use it. There is a consumption meter and 1 cubic meter of gas costs 6 euro. So if you use 10 cubic meters Andrea will return you 200 - 60 = 140 euro at the end of your stay.

Don't worry: we will help you in solving any problem may arise.

You will find in the cottage some instructions on how to live well and use all utilities plus some quick-fix information for things may happen, such as for instance when the light goes off. If the instructions are not enough, the best thing to do is to call me (Alberto) and I will make sure that the right person comes to help you as soon as possible. Besides Andrea, we have a plumber, an electrician and a builder working for us who can fix any kind of problem.

There are plenty of very pleasant activities to do, from hiking to sailing, from sightseeing to swimming. There are several excellent restaurants and nice cultural events are regularly organised in the area. You will find some information on things to do in the cottage and I will send you some additional tips just before your arrival.

Enjoy your holiday at the Cinque Terre!

Who we are – Baba and Alberto Parenti

We inherited from our parents this jewel and the same passion for beauty and nature. We constantly try to improve the house and the garden to make the Blackberry Cottage a wonderful place for us and our guests. We have been renting it to foreign and Italian guests for more than 30 years and the hundreds of people who have stayed in the Blackberry Cottage have always left with nice memories.

Of Florentine origin, we both left our home town for love and adventure.

Baba, a history of art specialist, recently published a wonderful book on a XVII century manuscript on paintings. Most of the beautiful things you will see in the garden come from her passion and intuition.

Alberto, an environmental economist, has lived abroad for several years, but it seems that he has finally found his harbour in Brussels, where he works for the European Commission. Married with Radostina, he’s the happy father of Alexander and Niccolo’!

Do contact us if you are interested in Cinque Terre, we'll be happy to assist you.
